Luoping
county is 228 km to the east of Kunming. It is located on the
border of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Guangxi Province.Luoping county
has a population of 500,000 and covers an area of 3,006 square
kilometers inhabited by many nationalities, including the Han,
the Yi, the Buyi, and the Hui.
Luoping enjoys a mild and humid climate. It
is dominated by karst features with small basins among independent
green hills. It is a national base for raising bees and for processing
honey oroducts. The rapeseed flowers covering an area of 250,000 mu
and on February of March every years, thousands of Yellow Rapeseed
Flowers are in full bloom, looking like and expanse of a golden
sea.
There are many things to see when you
travel Luoping. The major sights include the Jiulong waterfall
(nine dragons), the Duoyi River and the Lubuge Gorges.
The
Jiulong (nine dragon )waterfall is consist of 10-tier waterfalls
which are compactly grouped in a valley with a length of 4 km
and a depth of 200 m ,which forms a splendid view. The biggest
waterfall is 110 m wide and 56 m high. Each of them represent
a dragon, so we call it "nine dragon waterfalls ".
The Duoyi River lies 33 km southern of
the county. Formed by the water from 5 underground springs,
the river flows between its green banks for 12 km as if
it were a tender Buyi girl. It is on the way to the Gorge
of Lubuge, you will find different shape of ethnic architecture
and landscape like Guilin along the road.
The
Lubuge Gorge is located 40 km southern of the count. Lubuge is
from Buyi language, meaning "a beautiful village". The
major scenic spot is the Power Station Dam and its artificial
lake. The dam is 103 m high and the reservoir has a storage capacity
of 110,000,000 cubic m. The project was designed by 4 counties
engineers (British, Italian, German & Chinese). The human
power made the valley into a fascinating view with the 18 floors
dam like a labyrinth.
